THE BIRDCAGE Returning To Theaters For 25th Anniversary Screenings

If you’re a fan of The Birdcage mark your calendars. The 1996 comedy is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year, and it’s heading back to theaters as Pride Month comes to a close. Fathom Events is hosting the screenings June 27, 28, and 30 in select theaters nationwide.

The anniversary screenings are part of TCM’s Big Screen Classics Series. Based on the 1989 French Film La Cage aux Folles, it stars Nathan Lane, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, Gene Hackman, and Dianne Wiest.

If you’re not familiar with the film, The Birdcage  is the story of nightclub owner Armand Goldman (Williams) and his partner and star performer, Albert (Lane). The couple's lives are upended when their son, Val (Dan Futterman), comes home to tell them he's getting married. But there’s a catch: Val's bride-to-be, Barbara (Callista Flockhart), is the daughter of ultra-conservative Republican Sen. Kevin Keeley (Hackman), and Val wants Armand and Albert to pretend to be straight to gain the acceptance of Kevin and his wife, Louise (Wiest).

The movie is in one word, hysterial, and if you’ve never seen it on the big screen — or just want to see it again now’s your chance. Check out the promo trailer below!

The Birdcage 25th Anniversary Screenings will be Sunday, June 27; Monday, June 28; and Wednesday, June 30. To find out more about tickets and to see if it’s playing at a theater near you head to the official website for Fathom Events.
