If you’ve always wanted to see Princess Diana’s iconic wedding gown in person, now’s your chance. The gown worn by the late Princess of Wales for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles will be going on display at Kensignton Palace this summer as part of an upcoming exhibit called Royal Style in the Making.

The exhibit opens June 3rd in London, and runs through January 2, 2022 and according to the Historic Royal Palaces website will house not only Diana’s wedding dress, but also “never-before-seen items from the archives of some of the most celebrated royal couturiers of the 20th century set, set alonside examples of the glittering gowns and stylish tailoring created for three generations of royal women.”.

Princess Diana's dress remains one of the most well-known wedding dresses in history. Designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, it had a 25 foot train, more than 10,000 pearls, and was made with antique Carrickmoss lace belonging to Queen Mary.

The dress currently belongs to Princes William and Harry who have loaned it to the palace for the exhibit. This isn’t the first time DIana’s dress has been on display. It has previously been viewable by the public at Diana’s childhood home of Althorp and has also made appearances in various exhibitions globally over the years. I was able to see it at the Houston museum in 2005 and seeing all the little details of the dress that don’t always translate in pictures or on video was well worth the price of admission tickets.

The Royal Style in the Making exhibit is the first time the dress has been on display in many years, and it’s hard to say when it will be brought out again so if you want to see if for yourself and will be in London later this year you can purchase tickets  through the palace website.
