CBS Bringing Back Sunday Night Movies In May

Some of us (like me) are old enough to remember a time when all the major networks aired theatrical movies during primetime. NBC had it’s NBC Saturday Night at the Movies and both CBS and ABC had the Sunday Night Movie. With production shut down on original programming and so many viewers looking for comfort food viewing while we’re all sheltering in place during the coronavirus pandemic CBS has decided to dip into their vault of titles to bring back the Sunday Night Movie in May.

Each week, CBS will give viewers the opportunity to revisit five iconic films from the Paramount Library kicking off with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on Sunday, May 3 (8/7c).

“It’s a five-week programming event with epic films, iconic stars and brilliant stories that viewers love… and love to watch together,” said Noriko Kelley, Executive Vice President of Program Planning and Scheduling for CBS Entertainment, said in a statement.

Here’s the full lineup:

I love that CBS is doing this, but as I said at the top of the piece, I’m old enough to remember a time before streaming services and even a time before DVD’s. So I have a lot of memories growing up of sitting down on Saturday and Sunday nights with my family to catch whatever theatrical movie the networks were airing. I’m in!

How about you? Do you plan to spend Sunday night's with CBS in May? Do you think the other networks will jump on board and try something similar? Sound off in the comments below!
