Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is hitting Disney+ two months earlier than planned on May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day (because, of COURSE). With the addition of the film, fans will now be able to stream all 9 chapters in the Skywalker Saga in one place. The Rise of Skywalker marks the conclusion of George Lucas’ Galactic saga that began with 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope.

This isn’t the first time Disney has moved a streaming date up as the novel coronavirus pandemic continues to keep us all sheltering at home. The company previously moved up the release of Frozen 2 on the subscription service, and set June 12 as the direct-to-streaming premiere date for Kenneth Branagh’s “Artemis Fowl” live-action sci-fi fantasy.

The Rise of Skywalker will be available to Disney+ subscribers worldwide on May 4, with the exception of the Netherlands where it will be available May 5 because of the country’s Remembrance Day holiday. the 2019 film stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, with Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams.

Star Wars Day will also see the release of the eight-episode documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, the series finale of the award-winning animated series Star WarsThe Clone Wars, as well as enjoy “a week-long concept art takeover” on Disney+, according to a press release:

Like a commemorative gallery, each film and series’ artwork will be updated on May 4th to feature its original concept paintings. From Star Wars: A New Hope to The Mandalorian, the updated art will feature work from celebrated artists such as the legendary Ralph McQuarrie and Academy Award-winning artist, author, and production designer, Doug Chiang. On the Disney+ home screen, the animated Star Wars brand tile, viewable on web and connected TV devices, gets upgraded with a new animation that honors the signature hyperspace jump.

Keep going to check out the video announcement and have your tissues handy. If you’re a Star Wars fan it will get you right in the feels!
