Friday Five: Funny Holiday Cards To Spread Some Cheer This Year
The countdown to the holidays is on. So why not bring a smile to the faces of your friends and family with a clever holiday card? Because everyone could use a smile after the year 2020 has been. In case you didn't know, Christmas cards got their start in the United Kingdom in the 1840s. Dreamed up by a postal worker looking to promote the then-new mail service to a wider audience, holiday greetings have long since become an annual tradition for a lot of people.
Some love to be classic and sentimental with their seasonal greeting cards, but if you’re loooking for something more irreverant or for a pop culture fan there’s plenty of great cards out there for you too. Not into the holidays? There’s a Festivus card to take care of that. Because, of COURSE there is. In this week’s Friday Five here’s a round up of some of my favorite spots to help you spread a little cheer this year.
1. Richie Design
Richie Design is one of my favorite spots for clever letter-press cards for any occasion. You can find an assortment of holiday and Christmas cards, including this Holiday Xanax card ($6) that pretty much sums up my mood for 2020.
2. Castle McQuade
Another one of my favorite online card shops, CastleMcQuade never lets me down when I’m looking for fandom and pop-culture cards. You can find something for pretty much every fandom you can think of, whether it’s Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, and more. You can also find designs repping some classic genre movies and television shows, along with the internet’s boyfriend (and mine) Keanu Reeves. How great is this card?!!!!
3. Steel Petal Press
Steel Petal Press is another great spot for letterpress card lovers, and this HOHOHoly Shit card ($6) is sure to bring a smile to whoever is on the receiving end this year. Because, RELATABLE!
4. HipHopNShop
Did you really think there wouldn’t be a Baby Yoda card on this list?!! This one from HipHopNShop on Etsy has Porgs on it too. Even better!
5. PlayaPaper
For the friends who aren’t into the holidays there are lots of Festivus cards out there, including this one from Esty shop, PlayaPaper.
