'Star Wars' Gets The Shakespeare Treatment In This Fan Film

If you’re a Star Wars fan you’ve probably seen your fair share of fan films over the years — and this one is definitely worth checking out. Directed by Quebec-based director, Maxime-Claude L’Écuyer, Squad Leader TD-73023 follows a lone stormtrooper as he navigates his way across a desert planet reciting Shakespeare’s famous soliloquy from Hamlet as he contemplates the meaningless of his own existence.

While the subject matter is a little grim, the short film is beautifully shot and edited. Here’s the description from the director’s Vimeo page:

To be or not to be: Star Wars meets Shakespeare. Hamlet’s famous soliloquy is presented as the inner voice of a Stormtrooper, demonstrating the way Shakespeare’s language still echoes down to us through the centuries and remains as relevant today as ever---not to mention as well in a galaxy far, far away…
