A Mister Rogers Stamp Is Coming To Your Neighborhood
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood celebrates its 50th anniversary February 19th. The United States Postal Service is issuing a Mister Rogers Forever Stamp to celebrate the creator of the beloved children's tv show. The stamp features Rogers alongside King Friday XIII, one of his famous puppet creations from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
The dedication will take place March 23rd in the Fred Rogers Studio at Pittsburgh's WQED, the place where Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was filmed. From that stage, the world was Rogers’ classroom, and generations of children - myself included - grew up watching him. The dedication is free and open to the pubic, and the Post Office also plans to stream it live on its Facebook page.
Fred Rogers died of stomach cancer in 2003 at age 74, but his legacy of kindness, curiosity, and love has not been forgotten. PBS plans to pay tribute to the iconic host with a star-studded retrospective Mister Rogers: It's You I Like (March 6, 8 ET/PT, times may vary). There is also a documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? and just-announced biopic You Are My Friend, starring Tom Hanks in the works.
